Reader Decorating Dilemma:

Reader (Sarah) wrote Decorno today asking:

"I bought the zebra rug from west elm and also the turquoise lamp with the tall white shade. I want to put both in my bedroom but can't figure out what kind of duvet or sheets I should get. I really want white but I'm worried about it clashing with the cream and brown large zebra rug. Can you help?"

I thought I would open it up to everyone to offer helpful suggestions.

I think white sheets would be great. Crisp and clean and not at all in conflict with the rug.

Thoughts everyone? Liberate the inner stylist in you and help a sister out.

Agree about white. Grey could work too.

Cream and white together are fabulous. A crisp white duvet would be great, and could be paired with grey and cream pillow shams for depth. Love the lamp.

I was actually going to suggest white after reading the first line. I think it would look great.

I love white sheets in the summer but in the winter I have sheets that are a robin's egg blue that match my wall color but are a bit darker. My duvet is taupe as are the shams. Then I have a throw pillow that ties it all together. I think you could do something similar with the zebra rug and lamp. Good luck!

I think you could add yellow into the pallet successfully, not loud, more like a soft butter shade.

love the pale yellow idea, and gray!

I would do a brown bottom sheet and have the rest of the bedding white.

love spending other peoples money-
Linen sheets, Hermes Blanket-
You could introduce a zany color -
lemon
lime
orange
for some decorative pillows or high gloss end tables.

I agree with PVE - adding a punch of a wild color would make it more eclectic and less styled. White and variations of white would be nice, but would also seem expected. A punch of red even would look great against the teal and brown. Please share pics of your end results! So fun!!

I always go back to white sheets - and have no issue with white and cream - in fact, I like it. I do like the pale yellow or aqua idea as well. What fun to start a new project!

White sheets! Definitely. For color you can do a bedspread in a creamy paly yellow, or red, or light blue, or whatever. Sheets in colors, especially dark colors, tend to hang onto oils and become darker (esp. pillow cases.ew) with time. White always looks fresh.

I have this same rug in my bedroom with a white duvet and it's perfect! Don't ever worry about the small details like that- if you fill your space with things you love, they will all end up going together ;) Orange Euro shams would be gorgeous too, ps.

Are these people on drugs - yellow and blue! Please.... Chocolate mohair velvet button tufted bedhead and valance, best quality white bed line (and lots of it), red laquer side tables and vintage french industrial side lamps. Put the lamp in your living room.

Why can't anyone say "brown" anymore? Why all this "chocolate"? Gaaaw.

I only use white sheets. I love their crisp simplicity. Very soothing and tranquil for a bedroom. For a duvet, I would be looking for something with a turquoise/brown/cream print. Several designers are using those colors together now so it should not be hard to locate one in a print that you like.

How about white sheets and a deep dusky lilac cashmere throw placed where a duvet would usually go.
