How the hell am I going to narrow it down to just one?

Oooooh. no time to write articulate response. Must go and photograph my house now...

Hah, Jules! I hear that. I have a kitchen that has not been changed since 1967. Earth-tone browns clashing in all directions...

(To be honest, it's the most comfortable room in the house too.)

How about a decor post with tips for all of us who rent and can't tear out/paint over/put holes in all the parts that make us cringe?

I'd like to see a primer on how to mix patterns. I mean a real Mixing Patterns for Dummies guide.

I'd also like to see something on how to mix furniture styles.

Go get 'em!

Hmm... good ideas!

Kelie of Maison Luxe... are you out there? Could you help with the "mixing patterns" idea?

Tiffany - that is a really good idea. I have lived in so many of those apts. You know what I learned in my, like, 7th apartment? Paint anyway. Not kidding. Just paint anyway and give up the $250 deposit. Or just ask. I was completely surprised in two different apartments when I painted one a crazy chartreuse (the landlord liked it) and the other one had this little sun room with a balcony and I pained it a super high gloss fuschia and the landlord asked me to not paint over before I left because he thought it might help him rent it out.

So, you never know. I say, paint away. It's just paint after all. :)

But.. holes in the walls.... I hear you. Maybe people can tell me if they have every used those crazy 3M stick-em things to help hang art without drilling holes etc....

decorno-

whenever i visit you, i get a pop-up ad by something called paypopup.com. please tell me this is not a feature you've added to your delightful blog?

Same deal.

that is so weird. can you tell me when you started to notice it? if it's some part of code I pasted in accidentally, I need to know about when it happened so I can fix it.

Ick. Pop ups are bad news. Sorry about that. The weird thing is that I don't get any pop ups on my home or work computer...

Seems ok this morning. It was happening late in the evening, Eastern time, and making it almost impossible for your blog page to load. I even had "Block Pop Up Windows" on.

like anon, it seems to have stopped for me this morning, though yesteday it was there every time i visited (i kept coming back just to see if it was a fluke).

i doubt it had anything to do with anything you did, decorno, and i bet blogger/google has software that cleans things like that up- it's not something they would want happening on their site, as it slowed down load time for your page considerably.

all is well again on the decorno blog!

ps- i think you need to write something on met home's "green issue"- almost as bad as domino's! no more green, please- it's making masion21 blue!

decorno---for once i can be of help! I have used those 3m sticky things to hang pictures and hooks for a broom and apron, and they are fantastic. When you want to paint you can remove them, and once the paint is dry, there are sometimes additional stick-ums in the original package so that you don't even have to go buy more. So great!

It's so funny that you said paint anyways because I have been on the verge of doing so for months now (I even have colors picked out for several rooms) and I think I just needed another person to say "this is not a terrible idea" so thanks Decorno for the extra bit of cojones I needed!

Thanks Jane, I'm off to get some 3m things this afternoon to hopefully add some much needed life to my blah kitchen!

Hi Decorno! How about instead of mixing patterns, we mix texture instead? White boucle pillows on a chocolate linen sofa with turqoise lamps and maybe a touch of fuschia cashmere in the throw (for example) is so much more intersting than mixing it up with too many patterns. Also, white paint on the walls will make every piece of furniture you have look amazing, I promise! The only pattern I can truly endorse as a go-to every single time is that damn Zebra hide pillow! Everyone should have one. Happy Sunday!
