Armchair traveler.

Vernazza, Italy.

I am an excellent armchair traveler. When I need to get my travel on but I can't exactly leave the country in a moment's notice, I go to travelblogs.org, where you can find all kinds of blogs from regular people who have traveled around and documented it all on this site. You can search for nearly any country or city and find it here. The photos are often quite impressive.

Another cool travel site is couchsurfing.com where you can sign up and find people in cities all over the world who will host you in their home towns. You sign up for whatever level of "hosting" you can manage... everything from offering up your couch for a night, to just meeting up with someone for coffee and showing them around your city. It's a very cool project.

I was in Vernazza 3 years ago this weekend and it remains one of the most beautiful places I've ever been. The people, the food and sheer physical glory of the coast. I was there with a friend but I'd go back with a boyfriend.

In other news, here's to the dollar getting a job and getting of its parents couch.

Italy - a dream one day. Once with the kids and another time with my husband. Met my husband on the plane traveling to Greece. We spent our first day together in Santorini. This past January we have been married 30 years.

I was in Vernazza about 4 years ago, and took almost the same pic you posted. It's such a stunning place. *sigh*

Damn you, Decorno! You are making me so nostalgic for my travels ten years ago (where did the last ten years go?!?) I traveled through Italy solo and met some great Australian girls on the train to the Cinque Terre. We decided to rent a flat together in Manarola for 2 nights. We boated to Monterosso and enjoyed an amazing hike to Vernazza where we ate gelato and drank a bottle of local wine at the train station (I still have the cork). What a beautiful memory.
Santorini. Santorini is my place! I spent the rest of that summer ('98) in England and then three weeks in three Greek islands (Santorini, Ios & Mykonos). I became so obsessed with Santorini that I went back the following summer for 8 weeks and almost didn't leave. I love, love, love that place and look forward to introducing my husband and children to it. Until then, I continue to have recurring, vivid dreams of being there. I wake up and it is like I've actually been there and not just dreaming. The experience truly transformed me. Living in Santorini for two months was the single most romantic, sensual, exhilirating experiences of my life ... and I was single. For me it was just about discovering the joy of life, culture and passion. I wept the whole plane ride back to California and can't believe I haven't been back yet (life is what happens while you're making other plans), but I WILL get back there! Believe me, I adore my husband, but I don't think I've felt as much passion until I gave birth to my son. And even so, I still have to get back to Santorini!

oh I love it when people expose fabulous sites like these. You know, I'm in serious travel withdrawal and really needed this.

Our problem is that we're addicted to Italy. We pretty much did the same trip two years in a row. And we need to branch out and knock out Paris next time.

However... you showing me Vernazza makes me realize we are anything but done with our Italian trips. Holy cow is that place magnificent! Sheesh.

I would tell you to stop making me drool, but you know darned well it's the reason we're all here each day. ;)
