ETrade has the worst customer service of all time.

What a fucking terrible company. Terrible. Epic incompetence. And what bad management. I challenge anyone who works there to actually use their phone system and not have the net result be that they want to murder someone.

And don't even try to call a branch, because they will patch you through to their horrible call centers.

I would love to hear from any of these people to explain to them how a company with this kind of clusterfucky service is doomed to fail in the long run:

Donald H. Layton
Bruce P. Nolop
Matthew J. Audette
Russell S. Elmer
George A. Hayter
C. Cathleen Raffaeli
Daryl G. Brewster
Ronald D. Fisher
Donna L. Weaver
Michael K. Parks

Ha! Is this the board of directors?
Yes, E*Trade's C.S. is the clusterfuckiest.

Last Fall, even before they were doomed, I couldn't get a call through for anything (even the phone at the branch office in PA just rang and rang - I think they were hiding under their desks) and they said I could move money into my accounts but my accounts were not set up to move money out. WHA?! And every single person I talked to to try to resolve the problem had a different answer to my questions. It took a couple of weeks to resolve.

I do still have a little bit over there (only because their trading interface kicks ass) but I moved most everything else to Schwab. Excellent and KNOWLEDGEABLE customer service at Chuck. I will be happy to appear in advertising for them in exchange for free trading. Or beer.

Schwab is good, huh? My company used Schwab. The trades are more expensive, but I am going to move back and use them for my person accounts since Etrade has decided they don't want my business.

This is an excellent use of blogging muscle, Decorno. I love seeing the Internet used to call out bad guys.

i hear scottrade is excellent. i am curious though -- what specifically sucked about your experience with etrade? inability to reach a live rep through vru, long wait times -- shitty hold music? do tell. hope your tuesday is better...

Well that just stinks. You spend big money and get no service. On the flip side I wrote an email complaining to Sears about customer service because of a sale sign on a hedge trimmer in their store that they would not give me the sale price on. I got 2 calls from corporate and then a call from the store manager apologizing. And just this week I got a gift card in the mail for the price difference. Go figure. I guess Sears didn't want me to return the hedge trimmer and I didn't even blog about it. Nice service.
Here's hoping you get results.

I love Edward Jones! Best customer service I've ever experienced. They aren't the cheapest, but they are the best I've found.

Yeah, you do get what you pay for. If you are not a financial expert you have a better chance of making money at a full-service brokerage. Right now everybody's accounts are down some, but some of my friends are doing way worse than others. The two friends I have that use Edward Jones are doing better than the rest, probably because EJ is a bit more conservative than most others. Wish I'd been smart enough to move my stuff a couple of years back like they did.

EJ is good. And I think you're right - they are conservative. I have some of my investment there... my guy put me 8% in bonds 9 months ago. I wanted to kill him. I am 31! I should be only in stocks! This is what I told him. His more conservative approach is the only reason I didn't do even worse, really.

But I like to gamble and I don't want to pay him when I am gambling on single stocks, which is why I wanted something like eTrade...

ha, bad day? talk to someone in india perhaps?

Decs said...

No. I would have paid good money to talk to someone in India. I didn't get through to anyone, so I had to find executive contact info in Hoovers and start dialing managers. That barely helped. Oh well. :)

Eight percent in bonds seemed too conservative? That seems conservative in its conservatism.

try consumerist.com - they post executive phone numbers

WOST customer service EVER. Goddamn bank has all my savings money and before you can transfer it, they ask you account info PLUS random "public" information that I DON'T KNOW. Now they are holding my money from ME. I am contact my local police dept and BB, though I am sure that will do no good. Fees and poor service aside, beware you may never see your money from eTrade ever again....
