News of the world.

It's 5:40. It's way too early to be up on a Monday morning, but I have a lot of work to do.

No new posts for you. Why? Well, there's nothing new in the world of decor. Nothing. I just flipped through my new Domino book. If you already have stacks of the old magazines, you don't need it. It's all recycled. I'm disappointed.

The Macaroni Off went well, for those who are following along. 6 entries, about 15 eaters, many rounds of voting, lots of me trying to pay off the kids to vote for me. In the end, my fiance's brother won with a recipie that seemed very similar to a Martha Stewart version a few of you recommended a few posts ago. It was all totally fun, I highly recommend you throw a competitive potluck. I was surprised how everyone got into it. The only bad thing was that I forgot to go buy a cheap old trophy at a junk store, glue macaroni all over it and spraypaint it gold. I mean, if I had known there would be a trophy involved, I may have stepped up my game.

Let's see... in other news, I was reading THIS article about Andy Martin, the man responsible for starting so many rumors about Obama, and I enjoyed this tidbit about Mr. Martin:

He is a law school graduate, but his admission to the Illinois bar was blocked in the 1970s after a psychiatric finding of “moderately severe character defect manifested by well-documented ideation with a paranoid flavor and a grandiose character. Wow.

In other news, after THIS, I just wanted to punch Maureen Dowd. She's beyond obnoxious.

What else? I am ready to buy. The Decorno is going to buy some cheap stocks today. Very excited about that. Sure, we may not have hit bottom, but so many good things are on sale, so why not, right? I've got a lot of years before retirement.

That's all for now. This donut farmer needs to head to work.

Care to share what type of stocks you thinking of buying Decorno or is that a secret? Glad the Macaroni Off went well. It sounds like lots of fun. I'm sorry the Domino wasn't what you had hoped. Bummer. I've become stuck on this political stuff like I'm stuck on un-reality tv. It's bad.

D - I think your commenting section was just hijacked.

I'm not even going to read something that long unless it's from my broker. Or my pimp.(Same guy.)

Speaking of brokers and things - the topic at hand - I started buying last Thursday and Friday. Some of my stocks were on such sale that I figured I should do it to sort of dollar-cost-average.

I hate to tell you this: I am very often a contrarian indicator.

anon's NY Times article suggestion is pretty funny!

"I miss the old Cindy McCain. The one who used to go to rallies and sit huddled in the corner looking as if she thought the audience had a communicable disease. Now, she’s right up there on stage, standing behind her husband and making disgusted faces when he rails on about the opposition."

AnnikaSophia - your comments were deleted.

(FYI to everyone else... I spared you all of her rumor mongering an innuendo.)

annikasophia said...

Yea, let's keep listening to your rumour mongering about Sarah Palin, who I also dislike.

Decorno said...

What rumor about Palin have I suggested? I would like you to tell me.

OBAMA'S TROUBLING INTERNET FUND RAISING

fact or fiction?

annikasophia said...

ok,innuendo then and you have published plenty.

annikasophia said...

Just forget about all of it. This is a well deserved design blog with a political commentary thrown in as an afterthought. I am sorry I engaged in anything besides the gourd vs. mercury lamp controversy. It will never happen again. Keep Calm and Carry On.

Decorno said...

No, Annika - I am asking you to please quote me. Where have I printed innuendo about her?

You seem to have trouble with facts, so I am asking you to please prove us wrong today.

annikasophia said...

Keep Calm and Carry On - that is all I have to say. I have to get back to work. This discussion is not paying me anything to stay involved in.

I don't agree with her birth control policy, but fur wearing, winking on camera and a silly hairstyle is not a deal breaker for me.

I don't mind Obama having personal associations with middle easterners, but I do mind 200 million dollars in campaign contributions coming in from abroad, specifically from Arab and China. This is going way around the block ethically. Why should people from foreign shores, who cannot vote, be involved in helping to elect our President?

Oh my - I blathered on again. I really have to get back to work.

Jamie, you have schnauzer baby things to buy...priorities! =)

Annikasophia: So it's okay to sell them our dicey securities, but they can't monitarily support one of our candidates?

Are you sure that's not the psych records of Sean Hannity - no wait Sean is more messed up then that guy come to think of it.

Decorno what took you so long to find out there's nothing to blog (these days)from the mags? When will the other bloggers confess to this fact?

I wonder

oh and now you are a stock trader LOL

So, Annika, your response means that when you stated, "ok,innuendo then and you have published plenty," you were mistaken.

You might just want to say that.

laure said...

innuendo discussion aside. I'm pissed about the domino book. I just ordered (splurged even) it last night and got all excited. But I've got all the past issues, so you're saying I've wasted my money and could have bought cheap stocks instead. damn.

i suwannee said...

i got the stocks, the book and the schnauzer. hot monday!

Damn. Now I gots to know what annikasophia said.

AnnikaSophia---

I think it is difficult anything you say seriously, especially considering the fact that you referred to "Arab" as a country.

"but I do mind 200 million dollars in campaign contributions coming in from abroad, specifically from Arab and China."

Anonymous said...

@anon 11:49 --- that would be difficult to take anything you say seriously. I may leave out key pieces of sentences every now and then, but at least I know that Arab is not a place.

decorno must be smiling and rubbing her hands together right now...she likey the fighting.

Anonymous said...

AnnikaSophia - last time I checked it was illegal for non US citizens to contribute to political campaigns.
Please correct me if I am wrong.

annikasophia said...

You anons are so smart - thank you for pointing out an obvious literary mistake - I meant to write 'people from Arab countries and China.'

Regarding Internet campaign fundraising:

From the LA Times 10-09-2008

"Obama's contributions have also exposed a loophole in the law, which does not require disclosure of the identities of donors who give $200 or less, making it impossible to determine whether they are legitimate without a federal audit."

annikasophia said...

This is changing the subject, but Decorno, would you mind posting the winning mac and cheese recipe from your mac-off? This is one of my favorite foods. Thanks.

Anonymous said...

"making it impossible to determine whether they are legitimate without a federal audit"

so since it's impossible to audit, we should definitely assume it's people from Arab and China.

anika, wouldn't this loophole mean that it's possible McCain is getting the same kind of un-auditable money, too?

I really want to go to Arab. I hear it's really nice there in the winter.

Anonymous said...

Oh Decorno. You are enjoying this, you little evil pupeteer diva.

Anonymous said...

Sorry. Puppeteer-diva (for all you spell-checkers, you..)

I think Decorno *is* Anika and she's fighting with herself. That damn Domino book has made her more batshit crazy!

annikasophia said...

Obama's geek squad is just so much more clever, kind of like you anons, that his team has been able to favorably capitalize on fund raising in this new medium called the Internet. McCain and camp have already filed a complaint with the FEC about this. 3.2 million offshore money collected so far. OK already, I should be writing Arabic instead of Arab. BTW, I think you should visit Arab next summer. I hear they are very fond of American visitors - especially women visitors.

annikasophia said...

What you anons and others need to be worried about instead of this is the fact that Europe has pledged 2.3 Trillion dollars to bail out our screwed up market system and do you really think it is going to be free? No, they will basically own up to 20% of our financial institutions! Forget Barry Obama and the Arabs, the Brits and the Swiss are coming!

Decorno

Said it before gonna say it again. You are a fucking genuis. This is the best shit! Keep it coming people.

annikasophia said...

You anons are all doo-doo people! I bet they are smarter in Arabia.

Now I must get back to work, here at the Science Laboratory, where I am Chief
Scientist.

I bought some shares, too. Not maxing out, but starting to get in on the action after sitting it out for the past 3 years.

some bozo is now presenting him or herself as if he is me for some reason at 4:15pm. I did not make that last crack. anons are not doo doo people, they just want to remain hidden to spew their guts anonymously, like at 4:15.

this is officially too much when someone is now using my monikor. farewell deco, it's been real.

Annika is not above posting anonymously. Here is some of her recent work:

Gah, this is so boring to ask now, but did the mac&cheeses get ranked? Decorno, did yours get silver or bronze or honorable mention or anything?

I love this idea -- I was in on a scalloped potato night one time -- it wasn't a competition, though, it was just "let's see how everyone makes their scalloped potatoes." They were all really different but all really good.

Decorno said...

Susan, my mac came in second, but honestly, mine was only 3rd place, at best. I think mine was so cheesy and heart-clogging that I got the devil-may-care kids' vote.

The #2 was this amazing mac and cheese that was finished off in a cast-iron pan, with some onions added, and browned in the oven. It was amazing. I would never have thought of making it all and then moving it into the cast iron skillet, but it was great. And the presentation was so homey, you just wanted to eat straight from the pan.

Decorno said...

and yes, annika (was it the real annika?) I will post the winning recipe as soon as I get it from Tom, the winner.
