Reader home tour:

Stacy from Texas emailed me a note to encourage me to go ahead with the marble and she sent me a link to some photos which show marble installed in her kitchen and her butler's pantry/wine room/

Holy cow. She has one hell of a house. I had to show you.

"In the bar, there are red wine rings everywhere and stains. In the kitchen, next to the sink there are also some pretty worn areas from lemons, limes, vinegar, food coloring, etc... None of this bothers me...I loved the way it looked when it was all perfect and new, but I also love the way it looks now after enjoying it!"

Stacy says, "I had wood installed in the kitchen when we remodeled....it is easy to keep and I like having the floors downstairs all the same material... Our entry hall which has had that same paint for over 15 years...roller blades, bikes, hot wheels. I think the paint was thinned to give it a translucency that is forgiving with wear and tear. Could be a good option for you if you want to give your kitchen floors some interest without doing tiles."

Stacy on the right. No surprise she's as pretty as her home is.

Very tasteful and inspiring rooms. When, at first, you mentioned "Texas." my jaw clenched and I was braced for the worst. So wonderful to know that not all of Texas is as bad as its reputation! Over-sized however . . .

It's gorgeous. The rooms are a bit visually chilly and untouchable - we've seen it before in Veranda magazine: French/Gustavian. From the quotes of the homeowner this must be the photo styling as it sounds very lived-in.

I prefer homes that look less cookiecutter and more personalized/lived-in. The store seems more funky and approachable.

YES.

She's taken the best of feminine (light colors, delicate touches) and the best of masculine (clean lines, almost austere arrangements) and fused the two naturally.

I feel like sending this to [a blogger who routinely careens way too deep into Girlytown] and say "See???"

It's beautiful, but I'm not adult enough to have a house with that much white. Within a week of our moving in, it would be covered in cat hair, wine splatters, shoe prints, newspaper smudges,.... You know, signs that mortals live there.

Yes, beautiful home, but the pictures are overstyled...especially the kids' rooms...so crazy to make it out like children live in rooms like that- no toys, not a rumple on the bedspread!

Y'all act like you've never seen rooms that have been styled within an inch of their lives. Please. We all read Elle Decor. Sprinkling a few random Cheerios or condom wrappers is not going to make this look like it could be your place. We all know that.

Hi Stacy! your house looks gorgeous - as usual!!!!! even prettier than I remembered! I'm green with envy. Can't wait to come back to Dallas - you better be open this time, or I'm going to call you and make you come open it. Seriously - your house looks so wonderful here - it was a thrill to see it here tonight on the blog. Made my night.

Decorno - thanks for showing it. Stacy and Shannon are class acts in Texas (yes, ANON 12:55 - there is some good design in Texas!)

Oh My God! (of which she is my new focus of worship) I'm inspired that she has pets and a child yet she still has whites and light fabrics. Before the husband and baby my cat and I had a lovely "white" home on a much smaller scale.... I have renewed my alias to neutrals. Anon says cold?! Crazy....it looks super soothing and comfy to me.

p.s. anon 12:55 -- i promise texas isn't that bad ;-) we just have a bad rep.

Texas interior decorating can go bad in one of two ways:

1. Way too Texas (longhorns everywhere, animal hides everywhere, football-team color schemes, oversized everything, 1980s/"Dallas" style "opulence"

or

2. Pretending NOT to be Texas (dressing up your new oil-money MacMansions as English cottages, Italian villas, Swiss chalets, etc.).

Very pretty, but she's missing COLOR! Where's the life? If these were in my house, I wouldn't be able to use them, because they'd turn a nice shade of brown by the end of year 1. :)

Stacy,
I saw the first set of rooms and thought "she has GOT to be a Dallas girl." Preppy and tailored, very Dallas chic indeed. So glad to know I was right. Beautiful, beautiful home. Thanks for a glimpse.

Hey, very nice site. I came across this on Google, and I am stoked that I did. I will definitely be coming back here more often. Wish I could add to the conversation and bring a bit more to the table, but am just taking in as much info as I can at the moment. Thanks for sharing.
