Thanks New York Magazine.

Can't believe you're borrowing commentary from a hack like me, but I love you for it anyway.

Congrats on getting re-posted. It means you're doing something right! You are completely correct with your feelings on that article. Horrible.

I'm waiting for Scout Willis to be be the surrogate mum for Demi and Ashton's baby. Would be a great taboo-busting reality show. I don't know where Bruce would fit it, or what the kid would call him, but I'm sure they'd work it out.

Awesome press, thank goodness they know where to go to get the real skinny or should I say the real bloated, swollen footed, stretched marked, facts.

Props too to New York magazine for this:

"...instead we offer you surrogate commentary from blogger Decorno, who went through the misery of thinking about this so we didn't have to:"

In one deft sentence, New York magazine does what the NYTimes and Alex WhatsHerName couldn't manage in 3,500 words: found delicious dark humor in the fact that surrogacy, in some form, is happening everywhere you look.

I too wonder if the photo was supposed to be sardonic. Maybe it was intended to be a dark-comedy illustration of passages in the story like these:

"We had the money to pay. My husband is a very successful investor; I have made a healthy income for a writer. We were lucky in that we could afford to do what most infertile couples cannot."

"for every person who told me surrogacy was a worthy, noble venture... there was someone else who brought up Margaret Atwood’s dystopian novel “The Handmaid’s Tale,” in which fertile young women are enslaved as reproductive servants."

"I had the natal equivalent of a hall pass, a free ride, an automatic upgrade to first class."

"Women ... looked at me with tight smiles and said, 'Well, thank God you didn’t have to give birth to that huge child!' Or, glumly: 'You’re so lucky. Pregnancy is overrated.' One announced to a table of people at a dinner party: 'My God, Alex. You’ve really gotten away with some stuff in your life. But this takes the cake!' ”

Congrats Decorno on being cited.

But "Daily Intel" is an amazingly insipid blog. Please spare me the "I can't think because it makes my head hurt, and ruins my hair." So stupid.

I'm always interested in discovering good blogs, but I won't be visiting "Daily Intel" again.

Decorno got it right, the issue with this woman isn't her use of a the surrogate. People just hate Alex because she is a rich bitch.
What's novel about that??
Re: surrogacy, I think the Marie Claire "Womb for Rent" article is much more disturbing.
