"Happy Days Are Here Again......I could sing the next verse, but I'd rather keep staring at that picture.

Ugh.

that dress is just fabulous! for the anonymous hater "acceptance will bring you far more peace than hatin', boo."

Dashing, just dashing. Ditto on the ugh.

I thought Obama's speech hit just the right the note for me (I have not been this energized since before the tech bubble burst!) and Michele's dress was the sartorial expression of that exact feeling. Beaded chartruese for day... talk about audacity!

BTW: I live in DC, and despite the bloody cold, it was an amazing time to be here.

They're a beautiful family, I can't wait to see how they look tonight.

And props to Aretha too. When you're the Queen of Soul you can wear whatever you like.

"acceptance will bring you far more peace than hatin', boo."

Just as you accepted the last President with an open heart and an open mind? Boo, you; not only hateful but a hypocrite, too.

Love it or hate it, aren't you glad to see a First Lady going for something more chic than a boxy red St. John's suit?

Lisa Hunter said...

Oh, and who doesn't love Jill Biden's Mary Tyler Moore ensemble?

yma said...

Best part: green gloves and teal shoes, with a yellow dress.

I did not care for her ensemble. That color is not flattering on her skin tone. The color of the gloves was off, too. Did it sparkle. Oh, well, just my opinion.

Happy day for the USA.

At least they aren't boring, sartorially speaking.

Anonymous said...

I think they look like a fabulous couple and a fabulous family. I wouldn't care if they wore burlap sacks, I'd still feel the same.

paul said...

She looks fat, disheveled and very butch. She walks like a long-haul truck driver. A male one.

Her clothes don't fit well, or at least are not flattering to her bloated body.

I've heard that she gets up at the crack of dawn to workout, but I think that may be a lie.

Paul might have been watching a different channel in a different country on a differnt planet as far as I can tell. I thought the Obama Family looked stunning and proper and just right. Jill Biden- cute for a Friday night with her peeps, but not quite apropros for such a special day.

Anonymous said...

Paul- you are a giant fucktard sore loser.
Michelle is anything but fat - did you see her in the white gown tonight? Toned arms and fabulous back, most women would kill for. As a personal trainer, I can tell she has got muscle.
While the jacket added weight to her outfit today, it was still a fantastic choice given the weather. I like the fact that she isnt a size zero, but to call her fat is outrageous and I cant believe I took the time to respond to such an idiot douchebag.

Gerrie said...

God, don't you just hate douche bags. We got one out of the White House, but we can't shake off his lame, delusional followers.

Fabulous family, the Obamas. It's nice to have youth and intelligence back in the White House.

Oh dear! I am excited!

I could not believe when I read the incredibly pathetic and inaccurate comments.I think I am not cut out for the blogosphere!

Too much hate and resentment......and way too many "anonymous"! Cowardly? Cheap shots.......no one knows who? EWWWWWWWW!

I will continue to read........(love decorno)

.may have to skip the comments.....they are really depressing!

My parting comment is this! What a great day for our country! for respect for our goodness in the world; for fashion...........Michelle.......looked totally GORGEOUS.....and showed her ease with and support of her husband.........that last dance.......there is no faking that!!!!

A ten-strike if ever I saw one!

I will leave the rest of you malcontents to your simmering in your juices.........

I had a PEAK experience today......and I am ever so proud of our President; his wife; and our people!

Penelope

ps. anonymouses..have fun with your "ughs"!!

Paul,

You are clearly not used to seeing a normal sized woman. It's such a relief not to have to look at another tanorexic.

The bullet-proof vest might have added weight too.

Anonymous said...

Face it: They're gorgeous!

Anonymous said...

Yes, I was wondering about bullet-proof vests, too.

I'm sure Obama was wearing one. Maybe Michelle too?

They were so courageous to get out of the car (twice) and walk several blocks.

I actually was feeling a little tense for their safety.

I was like: "Its okay; stay in the car; I totally understand!"

Anonymous said...

she's a butterface. sorry.

Anonymous said...

Hated M's dress, but loved Aretha's hat.

paul said...

I'm anything but a Bush supporter...and she's gross.

You can lie to yourselves and say she looks good, but my name's not Ray Charles and I can see for myself that she's a hot mess.

Barack and the kids looked nice.

Anonymous said...

I think she is beautiful, especially her face.

Anonymous said...

I usually like what she wears. I just didn't care for that particular dress. I thought it was too square for her shape . . . it turned her into a gold rectangle and made her look big, even though she isn't at all heavy.

Anonymous said...

I too think Michelle is very attractive. But I also think that she should wear more fitted clothes, the volumes of fabric are not necessary.

People need to remember that through the lens a person looks at least 5 to 10 pounds heavier. Something the designers of Michelle's dress forgot.

Anonymous said...

If the yellow dress and coat were bulky, we should consider that Toledo put more lining in to keep her warm today. And maybe the extra bulk is coming from her bullet-proof vest.

To Anonymous 1:31 PM - Can't speak for everyone, but I "accepted" Bush after what I personally saw as a blatant theft of two elections, and the debacle that followed in 2001. I "accepted" him through the pre-emptive, prefabricated war in Iraq. I do not accept that he sold our country out to the highest bidder, giving tax breaks to megacorporations who sent millions of jobs overseas. I do not accept that vile Cheney (looking so much like Dr Strangelove in his wheelchair at the inauguration.) I do not accept a total lack of accountability or concern for millions of Americans who lost - and are still losing - their jobs, homes, lives. Do I care what the Obamas wore on January 20? Not a goddamned bit.

Anonymous said...

Happy Days of Socialism! I love it! We need to keep a strong incentive to those entitled to free gov't services, healthcare, etc--they should not have to pay any taxes.

Really, the Gov't is the solution to everyone's problem. Why did it take us this long to figure that out?

S. said...

Can I just say that Michelle Obama in burlap would be more attractive than Sarah Palin in all the Neiman Marcus in the world?

Yes. Yes, I can say that.

They're so lovely. *hearts*

To the haters-being from NY, I found Aretha's hat to be fabulous, its what proper church ladies wear on Sunday and culturally wonderful.

No, the dress was not St. John and stale, she is a woman of color and can WEAR color without looking pasty and pale.

What makes her beautiful is that she is strong, educated, a mother and she's married to the PRESIDENT. And frankly, by todays standards, that would make her a bitch.

And while I'm on a roll, SHE is the only African American in that White House. He's half white. Keep it real.

Anonymous said...

He's half African and half American...if that isn't African American, I don't know what is.

But thanks for the unnecessary and racist racial breakdown, last commentor.

Anonymous said...

She wore a cocktail ensemble to an outdoor morning ceremony. I thought it was unsuitable.

Iheartfashion said...

Michelle Obama is bold and confident and looks entirely at ease in her clothes. What could be more stylish than that?

Anonymous said...

Not being fat.

Penelope Bianchi said...

Dashing, indeed!!!!!!!!

No kidding.....I am so late in the game to comment.

I am almost 62! have lived through 40 years......as a decorator........(and, not bragging, a successful one!)

believe me; when I started, 40 years ago......it was barely a business!

I have been so, so lucky.....only referrals......and luck does happen!

I am so proud of the Obamas.......in every way, shape, and form!

Most of all.....their values....their rolling back of the horrible things that the Bush administration has done...

That aside......these may seem shallow to some....but maybe not to we design hounds......they bring taste.

And..........I love this one...........They bring taste........not"good taste".......nor "bad taste"..

My Mommy (who knew everything......) there is only one thing......."taste".

They have it.....in addition to every other value I love.........

we have two grown daughters with families who live in Europe right now......

they say......"they are now jealous of us! We have Obama!! they all say they always loved the American people........our goodness is back!"

It is the most exciting time in my life! My faith is restored!

Penelope

ps everyone who wrote before me......said it better. I have to print this out.........

how about anonymous? wonderful!

pps the jcrew website went down.....when the people saw Michelle in some J Crew outfit.....and again......with the girls.........Lordy!

Mickey who took over J Crew knows what he is doing.........I got a thank-you note!

Penelope Bianchi said...

Ohmigosh......after I left a comment.....I read some....

I hope Michelle Obama does not read "blogs"

this one; I am sure is very civilized.......however......there is lots of resentment and real hatred even in these responses.......

it is pretty scary.......read them.......where does that come from?

I don't get it!

I sure love reading the positives.....and I also love reading the constructive criticisms.......

I am astonished by the hateful.........and mostly anonymous.......posts..........

so sorry you are so unhappy! and so sorry you are cowardly......and won't show your name, nor any identity!'

Just like anonymous letters ; I refuse to read them!

Why even write ?

Pathetic.
