Michelle Nussbaumer

"More is more. Less is never more - less is obviously less. Who wants less??"

Ha! I love this. I love her math, you know? Like, "Look you idiot people with your less is more bullshit... this logic doesn't even work."

You can read this gem and others in this month's Elle Decor. The cover is disappointing. Wicker? Rattan? Red stripes? A fern? Doesn't really do it for me. But there's some good stuff inside this month.

I can't wait to get my issue.
Michelle Nussbaumer's work at the Veranda showcase house in Los Angeles last year blew me away. I am thrilled to see more! That quote is wonderful. I think that the "husbands" of my clients wouldn't find it quite as fun as all of us. Can we talk about that dress and those shoes too? LOVE!

HA, indeed! Of course more is more!

I loved those little interviews, too. Agree with you about the cover ;in fact that whole house was a bore. The exterior shot and the picture of the family raised expectations for a really original and fun home.

I used to work down the street from Michelle's shop in Dallas. She is a nut! Love the quote!

The cover makes no sense for November.

Well, of course she's right. Less can never be more. That's like 50 is the new 30 ... Uhhh, no it's not. And there's nothing wrong with less and nothing wrong with 50, but they are what they are.

More is more - WINE.

Good luck stressing out tomorrow, trick! I will be stressing at yoga at 10am.

If you want to go get a drink with me at some point let me know. My husband will be at the football game tomorrow night which means mama is SINGLE.

I love Michelle--such a lady! And a great friend, in addition to having extra, extra-ordinary talent.

I think we all know lots of instances where less is indeed more. And where less is, in fact, desirable over more--aesthetically, psychologically, emotionally, etc.

But, hey, these are hard times. In spite of Wall Street's "rally," hundreds of thousands of real human beings are still losing jobs.

While I have an extremely high tolerance for shameless materialism, and certainly all things decor, it appears Ms. Nussbaumer is seeking to:

(a) stimulate the economy
(b) be "provocative" to gain attention and decriminalize over-consumption
(c) bring back the Reagan years
(d) all of the above

Did she make her money? Or is she living off of someone else's (perhaps long ago) risk-taking? Her photo says "I'm full of shit". Her quote says "I'm jet-set amusing!"

I found the WHOLE issue to be a real snooze. The production and layout seemed a teeny bit hackneyed. That Darryl Carter apartment looked like a $2million dollar Crate & Barrel fantasy shoot. Oh look another group of cubes and grids and here's a sprig of bamboo. Yawn.

I always find the US version of Elle Decor boring and aimed towards the middle-aged. Every now and then there is an article I want to read but I don't usually bother to buy it.

The UK and South African versions are so much more interesting. Wish the US version would step it up.

That quote was the best thing in the whole magazine.

I just thumbed through it at the store, and didn't bother buying it. Nothing exciting for me.

Now Aaron Hom's home in October House Beautiful...I'm obsessed. That is fucking perfection. I can't stop looking at it.

Finally, a house that has the exact layout of my house!

seriously, I thought I got a holiday magazine in the mail this month. I did love Rosenberg and Kowalski's living room with fireplace though.

I am on team 'Less is More'.

Less consumption, less waste, less "design". More appreciation for the things we have, more years on a clean planet, more money in our pockets.

Oh Christ, there's a new book out on the Ubiquitous Tony Duquette, titled "More Is More."

Decor blog readers, commence cringing now.

I've seen lots of '80's Reagan years staples around - big florals, quilted designs, brass, jewel tones....
It's all a cycle.

I DO work down the street from Ms. Nussbaumer's shop. Her style has always been interesting. She's always been colorful. I can't say that I've always loved everything she's done, but I appreciate her unique style.
But, I will admit, she's a little snotty.
Oh, and I swear I've heard that quote before. I don't think it's new.

Many years ago, this dear girl did fashion dance shows at "Papagayo" with her friends and such.
She married well and now has the luxury to travel, have homes, be creative to the max, and purchase what she wants.
What I have seen of her work, she is very talented and loves to promote herself. And that started with,"Haute Magazine" many years ago. Michelle has always done something to stir up a buzz.
