If decor is your porn, this is your blog.
I'm a definitely Yes to the lamp base even though it's a tiny bit shabby chice-sque. I think the shade is a No though, I'd love to see that base with a sleek black shade.
gosh, I don't know. At first blush I said "yes!" but the more I look at it the more it looks like a paper mache art project. Maybe with a spunkier shade. . .
I can't quite get behind this one, but I'm not sure exactly why other than I hate the base.
Not on one of those Asian side table things like they have on the website. Ew.
No..something a little off about it and not in a good way. Bottom half looks too much like a soccer ball....
I'm gonna have to say "No" on that one.
What?!!!! They're fucking high! $200 clams for that? Pull-eeeese. I see EXACT lamp at TJMaxx/Marshalls/Homegoods all the time.
Oh and yes! Super cute. Just not at $200 ;)
Yes. But not with that shade and not with that base (the brown bit on the bottom) and maybe a new paint job. Oooh in gold, or bronze...aaah heck, at the rate I'm going and with all the work required, no.
I'll vote yes!
No, I think it looks cheap.
No. Unless you bought it for $15 at a yard sale, it's going to Greece with you and you will live in one of those cool white stucco homes with a blue door and stone floors. Even then the shade is a no.
Its got a weird vintage feel, I think I'd like it a lot with a different shade.
Tacky, cheap, nope. Looks like a school shop project, yes, I know I just dated myself.....
Oh, No. Please no.Way too Fred Flinstone.
Nope not even a little bit.
No: the shade is nice but not with the base. I do not care for the base...it overpowers the sleekness and clean lines of the shade. Actually, the shade should be a bit larger and white to balance the bulkiness of the base.
really like this lamp but I'm slightly afraid of this linin/burlapish trend. I might like a white shade better. Also, these non-white shades really don't give off the best light.
It Depends.... the shade not so much unless it is a quiet corner lamp with subdued lightening,or a different shade. I would have to see it in person. It does have character. In the right setting it can work well with enough curvature for interest without dominating the vignette and it has enough character to give the setting some distinction.
No! Looks bad 60's.....
Looks like something a child made in 5th grade art class and some crafty mom made a fucking lamp out of it. I believe that puts me in the Hell No category.
i just saw it in person on friday and i have to say...much more impressive in person. fuck that shade though. black all the way.
Calling Wilma Flintstone...
Definitely a no. I don't think that it has any staying power as far as design merit. I'm sure that you can find better.
I agree with the anon. who said it looked like a soccer ball. That was my first reaction as well. Too many other good looking lamps out there & I'd keep moving it if makes you pause this long to decide whether you like it or not.
Hell to the no. It does looks cheap.
Yes to the lamp because it's fantastic. Yes to the shade because it's what would have been stuck atop the lamp when I was a kid in the Fifties.
Yes to the lamp because it's fantastic. Yes to the shade because it's what my mother would have put on top of it in the Fifties, if she'd had to live with the lamp. Myself, same shape, but lime green.
Crazy Pen.........LOVE LOVE......and YES!!!Actually; funny thing.....I like it better than about 99 percent of the lamps I have seen lately.I love the terra cotta peeking through the white glaze. (by the way bloggers it is "peeking" through; not "peaking" through" ( Just so you know)I love the burlappy shade that is translucent...(light can come through.....softly...(black shade would completely ruin all of its function as a lamp. light goes up and down....not through. Ick!)And I think the price is astonishing. Very classic and unusual. I give you a 100 on that exam!be sure to buy at least two!ps of course; it wouldn't be on a ceramic garden stool......that is just the way the retailer displays it. Lordy! This blogging is really HARD!!! (sitting on a simple garden stool is actually a good way to show a lamp! no distractions!) Yikes!"a "spunkier shade?" Scary! I think stop asking questions........who knows? I actually say buy 4 and you will sell the other two to your client!ps the "brown bit at the bottom is the stand" Lordy.....you are patient.A lovely lamp in my opinion........now I hope I firestorm does not erupt!
The more I look at it.......I would buy a dozen. Total classic! Lovely!
Love its funky, chunky--tho the facets denote skill and deliberation. Hooorah for unexpected
I like the shade. Not crazy about the fake distressing on the base. I might spray-paint it black, so you just enjoy the shape.
i'm gonna go with no. the shade is just bleh, but the base looks like someone did a bad paint job, especially at the very base.
Thanks for asking, D.I'm afraid I'm going to have to say no. It is not terrible but you could do better and probably be happier in the long run.It is one of those styles that is getting way too overdone. I've also seen similar at Target.
Yes. As is.
In my humble opinion, no. Neo-Czech Modern, but why? It's clumsy, and so being, will drawn your eye more than any table lamp reasonably should.
It would make a good weapon.
I like. Kinda organic 70's Brazil vibe.Stylish, but low key - they're not going to take over the room.
Yes. I ain't gonna lie. I don't think $200 is outrageous either.
OY! and YES
Yes to the lamp, no to the price. What room would you put that in as-is? If it's made of wood, then also, no. do the whole thing in white: shade, base, no shabby chic paint job on the middle either...they need to rethink it a little, and stop pretending someone's paying $200 for something they could find at an estate sale.
Yes! I bought a pair of these lamps last week. They are awesome and I have great style.
FYI, the picture shown is not of the lampshade that comes with the lamp. The second photo of the lamp on WE website shows the shade that comes with the lamp.
silly questions, YES of course!
I say yes, but I also think the shade should be changed out.
The answer is no....or to be more specific, fuck no.
The Superman comics used to feature a bizarro version of our caped hero that showed him as a craggy, awkward version of himself. This is the bizarro version of a Spitzmiller lamp.
Don't you think it would be so much better in, like a hot magenta?
Going into Crazy Pen mode for a second:Why do we have to say "changed OUT" or "swapped OUT"?You don't need the "out."Real Crazy Pen: You do not need a "dozen" of these. You need lithium. Bless your heart though.
Black shades make your lamp glamorous and useless.
I like it, but don't love it. It's a little too fatigued, it would be prettier if it were a little more sleek.
I had a dream last night that a gang of those lamps was chasing me down the street.
No to the lamp. Yes to Penelope B., who outdid herself this time.
YES to the YES
No-No-No! In summary: Not in this shape, not in this color, not with this shade, not even for free! And Home Goods is MOMA after this!
In white? I think you could pull off a nautical thing if you painted that brown base a bright yellow or navy or red and then used a different shade (one of those colors solid or striped). Or that lamp might work if it wasn't painted, just natural wood, with a black or indigo shade. Kind of a boho chic thing. As it is though, no, not with that sahde, not at $200. At $25 maybe, then you could change it up.
Nope. Like the shade, but the base is Rachel Ashwell-lite.
Nope. If it makes you think Ballard, it should make you think no.
If you spray painted the whole base and pedestal a high-gloss white, maybe...
Wow. Hi to the "anonymous" (Feb 22 10:42) who derides me!I had to actually "google" "lithium"!I am sure that wasn't a compliment......but thanks for the learning experience!Of course; you are correct about "change out" and the rest. You be in charge of correction. I didn't say a word about that. You are so smart to notice!Standards are slipping! I think most people like to know the correct terms.......I may be wrong!GREATEST thing ever! Decorno gets 60 comments every time she does a blog!YAY!!!She asks great questions......and gets very interesting answers!!!
I had to actually "google" "lithium"!Next time you could "swallow" it.
fred flintstone - yes! paper mache art project - yes! i like it
no no no
It's like they said "how can we improve on the ubiquitous Spitzmiller gourd lamps? Hmm... Dent them!" Et voila. No.p.s. I wish there wasn't another Lynn, I don't want to be Lynn #2.
this is so funny! I never read the whole thing.....I need to subscribe to comments.....There are some "meanies" out there, aren't there? My personal favorite was the "anonymous" who suggested that I "swallow" lithium instead of "google" it! YIKES Isn't it for "manic-depression"?Guess what? I am so happy all the time; it makes other people depressed!I have yet to be depressed! I am delighted that your have reinstated your blog! I follow it with total joy and delight!Crazy pen.
I still like them. and better with the shades in the pic from Lonny.I sure got a kick out of those mean little comments from those antonymous...... they really don't like me much....ok with me!Kinda funny; don't you think?
I forgot to thank he or she posted that comment that I had "outdone myself".......was on my birthday! what a great birthday present!Feb 23rd. Think I found out the mystery!I doesn't show up on your blog post.....it goes to my email. sounds like it comes from you. this person is seriously disturbed! LOVE you blog!!!Penny
