But behind the seemingly scandalous behavior was a woman with a clear sense of morality: she habitually married her lovers. People watched and counted, with vicarious pleasure, as she became Elizabeth Taylor Hilton Wilding Todd Fisher Burton Burton Warner Fortensky — enough marriages to certify her career as a serial wife. Asked why she married so often, she said, in an assumed drawl: “I don’t know, honey. It sure beats the hell out of me.”

can you imagine if we had to marry all our lovers?
I have NO problem with this woman whatsoever. She was pretty fucking amazing in my opinion. Rest in peace sister!!
Also:
i know i'm vulgar, but would you have me any other way?
Who calls anyone a Dame anymore ? When it comes to Elizabeth Taylor we do. Au revoir
Very sad news. RIP...She was sick and in a lot of pain for many years you’re at peace now. That woman was beyond beautiful.
"These have always brought me luck" - that line has been going through my head all day.
What a woman. She lived.
What a gem!
Fiercely loyal.
After reading this post and the subsequent NYT article, I rented Butterfield 8. Damn I love Netflix! I have been w/o live TV since October and haven't missed it one bit. But I digress ... why do they say her character was a call girl when she was really just a fashion model and a slut?
I like her use of the word "vulgar."
holy fuckballs I'm so behind. I didn't know you were BACK!
I will start my series with my fave ET story. I was a senior in high school......(the Catholic school (I am not Catholic....but had been "not asked back' to every other school in Pasadena California. Even sent to Massachusetts to boarding school........)
Richard Burton and Elizabeth were filming Cleopatra....and we were asked by the nuns to "pray for them as sinners."
Nope. I thought they were having more fun than anyone I had ever seen! That was the real beginning of "news coverage"....the passion was obvious....
she was something else! She was a SHE "all caps"!!!
and she loved dogs! I think she was the most gorgeous and interesting woman actor of our time!!!
and as one of your commenters said.......she sure did LIVE!!!
A BIG LIFE! And She LOVED! Her kids, her dogs, and Richard Burton. She LOVED!!!
Bravo, I say!
And She LOVED! Her kids, her dogs, and Richard Burton
She kept her dogs and Burton nearby. The kids she shipped off to boarding school in Switzerland.
I want to believe that she just never gave up on love.
