Maybe you just don't get it.

The Sartorialist writes:
"Trust me, French young ladies are still the ones to look to for the most aspirational new trends. The newest thing I’ve seen in the streets here in Paris are straight, wide leg jeans. Not flared or oversized jeans, but jeans with a wide leg hemmed right at the ankle and reasonably fitted at the waist. It seems simple, but in order to work the look just right the eye will have to adjust to this new proportion."

Oh, come on.

And are those navy socks with black platform sandals?

To second Erika's comment:

and are those ill fitted high waters?

The whole thing I don't get. His weird comment, her weird ensemble. Weird.

At first glance I thought she was a soccer mom from 1995. I think I'm missing something. Her scarf is cute, though

I feel it not.

I hope I never get it. Why would any woman want to dress like a 40 year old plumber? With that ensemble even the bag looks like a toolbox...

Someone needs to say it:

The Sartorialist does not like women.

I have noticed straight wide leg pants in some spring fashions so I guess its possible Paris girls are trying it out. However, it is not flattering and no one should delude themselves about it. And I am someone who has worn some questionable things for the sake of fashion trends. That said, Scott Schuman is really pretentious and has serious delusions of grandeur. He probably thinks he's the next Cathy Horyn talking about THE new proportions. Sometimes he takes a good photo but never read anything he writes or says. It always sounds wrong because it is.

Oh, please. Not pretty, no matter how you phrase it.

I was searching for something to make my legs look really short and sturdy. Think this is it. *ugly*

Please! I have spent a lot of time in Milan and am biased, but the Parisians are not the end all be all setting the world on fire with denim trends!

Yep...soccer mom jeans. But I swore I wouldn't wear low rise many years back...and here I am trying to hide my muffin top on a daily basis. I hope they raise the waist...but I will have to adjust my eye to the loose, not skinny, not flared bottoms.

I live in Paris currently and I have never seen anyone dressed like this. She must be a tourist from the United States.
