Undone.

Joni's posted about RH doing unfinished chairs and sofas... and I thought I would add that I suspect a lot of that influence comes from Dan Marty's dining room, and also from John Derian and the living room that caused some (boring) people to cancel their Elle Decor subscriptions.

Restoration Hardware has a lot of really horrifying product these days. That's a topic for another post. I don't like their version of undone... I mean, a whole sofa with an uncovered back? No thanks. But I love this Dan Marty living room and those not-yet-finished chairs. Plus, what's not to love about the peek of yellow inside the cabinet? So great.

how funny you post about RH. I just got their catalog and though WTF?

everything is beige and I get that overall look but for the entire company? I think someone is missing some fun over there [and perhaps a reality check]

well, yeah - i forgot about dan marty's influence. several people mentioned it. but he does it beautifully - where he can pick and choose a particular piece to showcase naked. and right - a chair, especially an antique or antique swedish chair can be beautiful in it's undressed state.

but something about the rh line is just so phony - those bits of fabric hanging from fake nails just makes me snort.

thanks for the link. i LOVE that!!

RH is a long way from Dan Marty or John Derian. I think most of what they are doing is cartoony shit compared to the real thing. Some of it is okay, this is certainly not.

This was the first I have seen of this. Now, hopefully, the last too.

Have you seen a photo of their Houston flagship? It looks more like the Kink.com headquarters than a design shop.

Another case of the Emperor's New Clothes. Decorno, I know you recognize it when you see it ; )

it's silly, trendy, something that people will be sorry about spending thousands of dollars on in a year. BTW loved Dan Marty's room, but still thought that the chairs were goofy.

Doug - - with you 100%.

Richie - you're right. ALL GREIGE. No humor in their stuff and it's all one note. An weird.

Mamacita - heading over to check it out now...

great forum about RH's half baked collection of deconstructed chairs, settees, etc. the half-pholstered pieces are off and doug is spot on with the loony cartoony rivets, calipers and scissorlifts.

When I pay $1600 bucks for a sofa...I want it to be finished! RH needs to get their "team" back to the drawing room!

RH has been annoying me for sometime now. There were those fugly column lamps and now the ultimate in poser furniture. If a gal can afford stuff from RH and actually buys it, its because she has zero imagination and is too lazy to shop antique and vintage stores for the real thing.

I don't know who Dan Marty is but that chair looks self-conscious and trying-too-hard.

If you like exposed-wood furniture, buy vintage Danish Modern, or a George Nakashima table made with a gorgeous slab of ancient wood.

Well it does make me inspired to do an even worse job upholstering my own furniture than I already do

RH is about to launch a small space collection which means all that oversize mc mansion furniture must not be selling so well...

I thought undone was something Anthropologie did 6 years ago. I associate it with bad color schemes.

All I could think of when I saw the new RH catalog was "POSER!". The whole point of "old" is that it is in fact OLD. It is the story, not the thing. What story would you tell about the chair from RH?

the RH Emperor in Chief may be too busy getting microdermabrasion to notice that the initially interesting bent RH had has now degenerated into complete crap... someone above said it correctly: no sense of humor in their stuff. and that'll kill you every time.

Does that make my dad on trend? We have a couch missing pretty much all of the upholstery on the back. Someone was tossing it, and he decided that it was very comfortable. His trash-picking habit is pretty annoying, and ends up making his style *hilariously* trendy.
