Hello Decorno. An avid reader here from Manila, Philippines. Mabuhay! Is there such a thing as "too gay decoration" or a gay room for that matter?I want my new apartment to look fabulous (yes, fabulous!) without looking too gay.Thank you.
Hi! I have pickled pine paneling in my library , it has no windows only a sky light. It reads pink beige I hate it. I have dark brown floors and a huge yellow/brown/pinkish brick fireplace. What color do i paint it? should I paint the brick too. Help
i have the ugliest fireplace. the color is a crappy sandy dirty brown. should i paint it the same color as the walls, whitewash it, paint it white? BTW, we will move in 3 years but i have put up with it for 7 years and i just can't stand it anymore (yes, 7 years. i work full time and have 4 kids) since i have a week off.

There is a hair coming out of my left ear.
Received a "no confidence" vote from my employer, i.e. was demoted this morning. Will still have to report for the peacocks. This is a real problem. Appreciate your advice Decorno!Ann Curry
Not sure why I am posting this because I really think that there is no solution, but here goes. I have 2500 sq. feet of wall to wall beige carpet, YUK!. New flooring is not in the budget unless its more carpet. Carpet really skeeves me out. I have a young daughter and my husband works a lot so some DIY, paint the subfloor thing won't be happening either. If you can think of something I will worship you.
Still waiting to hear back from you on that ear hair. It's gotten a little longer.
I'm having some furniture placement drama in my bedroom b/c of some random windows. How do you feel about beds in the corner, going diagonally into the room? (This is a fun post!)
Re: ear hair, I say go with it. V05 condition that shit.
Okay, 2nd question. Should I mention it in my CL ad? (the hair)
pluck it, frame it, sell it on Etsy.
I like my dining room well enough, but I feel like it is missing a WOW factor. I like the curtains, rug and mirror, but can't decide what to add to make it awesome. I can't really add anything large because this room is the pass-through for all parts of the house. Should I possibly change out the fabric on the back of the dining chairs, maybe a stripe that pick up the turquoise and lime in the curtains? Help!
Ooooh, this is awesome! I recently moved into a house with a small "master" bedroom, and I've been struggling with what to do with the wall directly across from the bed. There's only about 40'' between the end of the bed and the wall, and this space serves as the walkway between both sides of the room/bed. Floating shelves? A narrow console table? Fun art? (Changing the layout of the room is not an option because of drafty windows and our current furniture.) Any help would be fantastic!
I'm 50 & my husband is 54. We are both without full time jobs, but have 1 $Million saved. I want to play and try new directions, but the conservative side of me says keep job hunting. Need "life" advice! Decorating will come next.
Ok, Kristen. Just posted advice for you.More to come for everyone else...
I work my ass off. My boss just gave me a review that said I'm reluctant to take on some of my responsibilities and gave me no examples. She gossips about me with the director of our department, who bad mouths me to her direct reports. I have a rebuttal ready to submit with examples instances when I did the work she accused me of not taking on, including working from a courtesy computer in a hospital waiting room when my mother was intensive care. I can't quit, I need this job. Do I submit the rebuttal?
I need help deciding what's a legit price to pay an architect for a custom build house. I've interviewed two reputable people in our city. One was at least twice as much as the other. What expectation should I have from the architect?
have a apartment/townhouse that is a downsize from home of 30+ years.two questions, hate the vertical blinds and hollow core doors, what to do? the verticals are for balcony door but part of a two story wall.Budget limited and it is a rental, so would put verticals in storage.second problem is how to update what I own so it does not look like a grannies apartment.I am not alone in this problem as top of baby boomers and we are a population rarely addressed by design bloggers but need help.
I flushed my BMW keys down the toilet at McDonald's. You coming to Century City to rescue me? Sooner rather than later would work best for me. Awesome. I always knew you were great. Kelly
Oh no! Am I too late? I'm going to Florence for 5 days leaving late next week. I've done zero research, except to arrange a walking tour focused on eating, drinking, and tasting Italian goods.
You need to hire kelly johnson as your assistant STAT.
Amazing!!! I love your blog Decorno. I discovered it a few weeks ago and have literally read the entire thing. Here's my little dilemma: I moved into this super amazing 50's era trailer last month. It's seriously the cutest fucking thing you've ever seen. The problem is, there are 3 big windows in the front (which face the street) and the current window treatments suck. There are old shitty beat-up blinds and some ratty fabric panels tied across 2 of the windows, left by the last tenant. I'm on a super tight budget (less than $200 total) and the total yardage of the windows is 7 yards across(they are about 3 feet tall).... The only fabric store here is this crappy JoAnns that is full of the tackiest shit you've ever seen. I'm so lost. Help?
I'm 25 and live with my parents. I feel ashamed. Should I?
Dear Decorno...I got kinder caught up in the Hollywood Regency thing a coupla years ago, but now I am digging the tribal/boho look with lots of plants and more drahma. I don't want to have a yard sale (because I had one - and sold exactly 2 pairs of used sneakers to some guy who kept coming back to reinspect them 3 times before purchase. long story short I paid more for the *$#*#$ permit I had to buy from the City than I made in the sale). I also don't want to sell $15 items on craigslist and have weirdos calling at all hours, or god forbid put them on ebay and have to go to the post office. How can I work some of this brass and chinoiserie into a more relaxed, boho thing? Help!
I hope you'll address PVKansas' question, I'm very interested in both your take and input from the commentariat. I'm hoping to do this very thing one day.
