John Derian.

‘‘I wish I had spray dust or spray dirt in a can,’’ he confesses. ‘‘I don’t want to lose the look of the place — I want that patina.’’

Very handsome. Clearly the space once had pretensions to elegance, what with the handsomely restrained mantel, lofty ceilings, graciously proportioned windows, door casings and compound crown moldings, as seen in the bedroom. Clearly it harkens back more to the very late Federal era rather than the overwrought Victorian, at least in its original DNA. The space has also seen alot in its time, giving it a patina that does not need spurous "dust in a can" to show that it has lived through many ups and downs before this latest upswing in its fortunes.

Hey, very nice site. I came across this on Google, and I am stoked that I did. I will definitely be coming back here more often. Wish I could add to the conversation and bring a bit more to the table, but am just taking in as much info as I can at the moment. Thanks for sharing.

I met John Derian once. I was in the John Derian store in NYC. I walked up to a man who looked like John Derian and I asked, "Are you John Derian?" he said yes. I was mostly speechless. Said something like "oh" and walked away. My husband still makes fun of me.
